The 21st JEONJU International Film Festival (JEONJU IFF, Festival Director LEE Joondong) revealed three selections for the JEONJU Cinema Project 2020: Three Sisters by LEE Seungwon A Distant Place by PARK Kunyoung, and AFTERWATER By Dane KOMLJEN.

JEONJU IFF is expecting this year’s selections will extend the outline of film art. They are from experimental films blurring the boundary between documentary and fiction, to independent films connecting individuals’ lives and their inner sides and telling the relationship between the society and characters.

Frist, Three Sisters by LEE Seungwon throws questions of the meaning of family through dissimilar sisters. The film shows dramatic character portrayals and unique directing of LEE Seungwon that pushes the characters to the limit. Above all, the thrilling performances by actors MOON Sori, KIM Sunyoung, and JANG Yoonju are brilliant.

A Distant Place by PARK Kunyoung tells a story of Jinwoo, who lives a quiet life with his daughter on a sheep ranch in Hwacheon, Gangwon-do. However, Jinwoo’s long-time lover Hyunmin arrives at the ranch. They dream of living happily, but with Jinwoo’s twin sister Eunyoung’s visit, the conflict begins.

AFTERWATER by Dane KOMLJEN stands out its formal experiment. It lyrically draws three characters who spend their time, take a train, and leave the city, pitching their tent on the shore of a lake. While reading, eating fruit, tracking in the forest and swimming in the cold lake water, the outside world feels more distant. KOMLJEN who felt the strange charm of lakes while reading ecologist Evelyn HUTCHINSON´s “A Treatise on Limnology” decided to use the format of a film to attempt and write his own “A Treatise on Limnology.”

The official selection of the JEONJU Cinema Project 2020 will be screened at theaters through an extended screening schedule until September 20. During the original dates of the festival starting from May 28 to June 6, JEONJU IFF will proceed to have the jury screenings and online screenings. Starting from June 9 until September 20, key titles will be introduced to the audience through the extended screenings.
