Review

This film is the first in Korean film to take on mountain climbing as its subject matter. The snowy mountain climbing scenes deliver the audience fresh sights filmed on location overseas. The love triangle between two men and a woman is a little ambiguous in the beginning but as it turns to flashbacks, the film pieces together an epic love story. Kyung-min played by Kim Ha-neul is in love with a married man Joong-hyun, played by Lee Sung-jae. They join an overseas mountaineering tour together but they get into an accident where the two hang from a single rope on the verge of falling. Kyung-min gives up her life by cutting off her part of the rope and falling to her death to save Joong-hyun, an act that is typical of self-sacrificing woman in dramas. The man lives on holding onto the memories of this woman who sacrificed her life for him. Her friend Woo-sung, played by Song Seung-hun is still in love with Kyung-min who died and he takes off on a mountaineering trip to the same location where she died. And there he meets her old lover Joong-hyun, after which they themselves get into an accident, reliving their memories about the same woman they loved, building up the narrative. The two men in distress share their memories about the woman filling up the scenes with flashbacks from the past and present, of the snowy mountains and Seoul. The tension that arises as each secret unfolds and the spectacular mountain scenes hold the film together.
