Review

This vampire romace movie is a debut film of Ana Lily Amirpour, an Iranian female director. The fact that it’s a vampire movie directed by a middle east female director makes it special but the movie itself isn’t too far away from the typical ‘vampire romace’ plot. Citizens of the haunted village so-called ‘bed city’ filled with death and loneliness don’t even realize that they are being chased by lonely vampires. One day, an anonymous virgin vampire who goes hunting every night meets Arash, a young boy who is taking care of his sick father. In this village where loneliness has become a part of life, vampires and human start falling in love. This movie brings back the atmosphere of the 1980s American independent movies when David Lynch or Jim Jarmusch were at his peak. (JANG Byungwon)
