Born in New York. Gianvito earned a BFA in Film/Video from the California Institute of the Arts and a Master of Science in Visual Studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a curator at the Harvard Film Archive and the MIT Visual Art Center, and he gave lectures on the History of Film and Filmmaking at Boston University, the University of Massachusetts, and MIT. He is now an assistant professor at Emerson College.
