Born in 1940, Bronx, New York. At the age of 14, he began to shoot short films. He majored in Fine Art and Theatre Art at Carnegie Mellon University, but dropped out after two years to work at a broadcasting station. Romero had been producing several 8mm short films and commercial films when he made his debut as a director with Night of the Living Dead (1968), which he co-wrote, edited, and shot. He created a new genre with his satirical point of view that reflects not only the cruel violence but the American society in chaos.
