Review

Marina, the heroine, makes her visit to Sawai Island. However, the islanders have no idea about the romantic legend that led her to this island. Marina observes the daily lives of the islanders she meets there. For both Marina and the audience, the magnificent view of the ocean is overwhelming. It seems that the only one that can respond to the legendary love story is the ocean itself. She appreciates it very much, as if she is ready to transfer to the other side of the world through the ocean. She meets another visitor, who has the identical name with the romantic hero. Together, they search for the origin of the legend, and feel a mutual attraction to each other. As the story goes on, the audience might want to make sense of the legendary love story in which the couple is absorbed. At the same time, Marina’s desire to feel, caress the ocean conveys to the audience and they get the urge to go deep inside it. The ocean is ravishing, going beyond our senses limited to our banality of the life. Edwin develops the sequences slowly dissolving the boundary between the legend and the reality. At the end of the story, Marina finally reaches her own fascinating world of the legendary romance. The lyricism realized by florid camera work and the beauty of the heroine are tremendously balanced in this film.
