A story of a conservative Bedouin village in Israel. Jalila is preparing for her husband’s wedding with a second wife. While being disturbed with tradition and jealousy, she discovers that her daughter falls in love with a boy in next village, which is prohibited. At first, Jalila scolded her but sided with her when the authoritative husband put pressure on them. The film deals with conflicts between tradition and modernity, or patriarchal tradition and new values. The fragmented family shows how difficult it is to resist the old, contradictory custom. Through the mother and daughter, it describes the tension between the stubborn tradition and the struggle to adjust to the changing world. Director wrote screenplay after interviews with real Bedouin women. Winner of Grand Jury Prize during the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. (JANG Byungwon)
