Paris is a Moveable Feast - A Film in 18 Waves
Director_ Sylvain GEORGE
2017 90min DCP color/b&w feature Experimental
Review

The film unfolds in three tracks: the landscape of Paris, the stories of solitary immigrants, the street protests. The relationship of them is established only by political views. The images not sentimental but fascinating present the places and monuments that symbolize Paris and the outrage and shout that filled the streets. At illegal immigrants´ protests, they sing, recite the works of radical writers, and run away from the riot police. On the other hand, the images in black and white of which the event named ´The Feast of Paris´ took place from 2015 to 2016, that the film naturally links with those of May 1968. The current and historical discourses, compared with overwhelming similarities, comment on the reality that is far removed from the spirit of freedom, equality, and fraternity. A powerful film that makes poetic form political. [JANG Byungwon]
