Hu Bo´s debut film, with 4 hours of run time, has a multi-plot structure that combines four separate stories. It is a teenage boy WEI Bu who is connecting four stories, and who injured school bullies in an unintended accident. Bu´s girlfriend Ling, Jin who will be forced to enter a nursing home, and Cheng, a street gang in self-loathing who explodes the people around him. They are struggling to escape from the dark reality. ''An Elephant Sitting Still ''based on Hu Bo´s own novel, which engendered controversy, was accepted as a remarkable event. The film of despair, portraying people out of step with hasty economic development, disgruntled young people and criminals in the city, is reminiscent of Jia Zhangke´s early films, but it displays the special aesthetics and storytelling of Hu Bo, who had finished his life at the age of 29 in October 2017.
