DIRECTOR
Guillaume BRAC
Guillaume Brac is a major director of French cinema’s new generation. His debut feature film A World Without Women (2011) deals with a man shaken up by two women. This emotional drama is continued in his film Tonnerre (2013) where he portrays a rapidly changing relationship as a musician and a woman meet. July Tales (2017), screened at the 19th Jeonju IFF, is an omnibus film about two friends’ visit to the beach and a Norwegian traveler’s last day in Paris. His recent documentary Treasure Island depicts the suburban Paris beach as a microcosm of the world. Brac crosses the boundaries of narrative and documentary film without setting a clear difference between the two and enjoys mixing elements from both sides. He is often mentioned as the descendant of Eric Rohmer due to his balanced projection of melancholy, irony, and ego in his portrayal of trivial daily lives.
