Infinite Football
Director_ Corneliu PORUMBOIU
Romania 2018 70min DCP color feature Documentary
Review

Corneliu Porumboiu is deeply involved with football. Infinite Football is his second football movie following ''The Second Game''(2015) with his father, a former football referee. This documentary is a depressing portrait of former football player Laurentiu Ginghina. Ginghina, still suffering a traumatic injury after a fatal fracture in 1986, tells a new football theory in a long interview and explains ´Football Innovation plan´: flexible game rules, a new stadium type, a system dividing each team into two, etc. The film is also a strange fable about the social and political reality of Romania, with a strong black comedy and the satire about bureaucracy, as his previous?films. A lame football revolutionary, wounded in the Ceausescu era and forming the new plan in the 1990s, represents Romania today, looking forward to a better future. [JANG Byungwon]
