Review

''That Summer'' puts together footage from the 1975 masterpiece Grey Gardens. The long-lost extraordinary materials show different aspects of Peter Beard as all as his family and friends. The film offers a chance to rediscover the works and influence of their creative community in Montauk during the 1970s. Director Goran Hugo Olsson’s new interpretation generates a sense of nostalgia and at the same time paints a fascinating picture of American family in the 1970s. The director has found ‘a missing scene’ from the original project that was put on hold for 45 years, and the results is something that gives a different impression. Unlike Grey Gardens, that summer is less organized yet wilder, friendlier and more natural. All this creates a more endearing reality. [LEE Sang-yong]
