Review

Snow covered mountains in Japan. Every night, a father makes his way to the fish market, leaving his 6-year-old son alone. The son, awaken from his sleep, draws a fish. The boy who goes to school with the picture drawn at night in the satchel disappears. ''Takara, The Night I Swam ''co-directed by Damien Manivel (''The Park'', 2016), a promising new director in France, and Igarashi Gohei, a Japanese director follows an unpredictable Odyssey. The journey of this little wanderer is looking depressed and unstable, and reaches a beautiful anarchy. Its three chapters separated by picture book covers form an oval story, in which he sometimes seems dangerous. As in Albert Lamorisse´s The ''Red Balloon''(1956), children are more cinematic than we think. The silent TV screen image that removes the dialogue has a dreamy atmosphere. [JANG Byungwon]
