Review

Remy may look like an ordinary rat but unlike his family, he is not content to eat garbage and dreams of becoming a great cook. But his father, Django, doesn’t acknowledge Remy’s special talent and his ability to identify precise food ingredients is of no use. Remy ends up in the best restaurant in Paris and meets a young apprentice chef named Linguini. Thus begins the friendship between the two. Remy’s idol is Auguste Gusteau who famously said "Anyone can cook." Instead of getting banished from the kitchen, the ordinary rat becomes a special rat and an indispensable part of the kitchen. Although set in France, it’s no exaggeration to say the film´s celebration of an ordinary man’s success fulfils the most American ideals. Ratatouille is an ordinary French dish but it can become a special meal depending on who makes it and who enjoys it. [LEE Sang-yong]
