In a near future society, a dog flu virus starts causing problems. When the mayor signs a decree banishing all dogs, the first dog to be banished is Spots from the Kobayashi family. Atari goes to Trash Island to search for Spots. Together with Chief and four other dogs, he embarks upon an adventure. What ensues is a revolution filled with friendship and solidarity. Those on the periphery of society dream of overthrowing the ruling power. Characters like Professor Watanabe and Tracy add to the fun. Through this story of growth and adventure, Wes Anderson presents a new change. Furthermore, it shows quintessentially Japanese, haiku-like imagination as seen in Japanese animations and Kurosawa Akira’s Seven Samurai(1954) and Yojimbo(1961).
