Review

The second directorial feature and the first feature drama of Ivan Markovi?, the cinematographer of All the Cities of the North by Dane Komljen and I Was At Home, But... by Angela Schanelec. The collaboration between him and Wu Linfeng has made From Tomorrow On, I Will. This film is a fiction, but the story is all about a parting process between a building manager and his roommate. The film sets the characters who are making statements with detailed framing and impressive camera composition. Markovi? makes the mega city Beijing to be perceived as a lush forest in a perfectly controlled scene. Utilizing markets, streets, buildings, tents, windows, doors, walls, grid-like glass and blocks, the film visualizes the state of detained existence. A man uses the screen on his cell phone as a mirror and straightens his clothes. However, the characters are reduced to shadows or silhouettes and placed under the frame, the reflected images and formative scene using urban geographical features gives an impression of witnessing the return of Michelangelo Antonioni.
