The Kamagasaki Cauldron War
Director_ SATO Leo
Japan 2018 115min DCP color feature Fiction
Review

One day, a cauldron treasured by the local gang appears at an invisible slum, the red light-district of Kamagasaki. A commotion occurs between the gang members, prostitutes, pickpockets and day laborers to possess on the cauldron that once fed the lower class. This film is based on the documentary Nagai Park Elegy (2009), which depicts the abandoned area of postwar Japan where people resist to the government authority in creative ways. The anarchist attitude of Sato Leo transcends the barriers of political rigorism. [JANG Byungwon]
