Review

In early 2010, Jean-Luc Godard shot Film Socialisme aboard the Costa Concordia cruise ship. A few years later, the ship sank in the Mediterranean. Film Catastrophe is an essay film that brings together these two symbolic incidents. There are three narrative arcs: a portrait of Jean-Luc Godard making Film Socialisme, a hilarious cruise comedy and an apocalyptic essay on the Western World crisis represented by the shipwreck of the cruise. Paul Grivas replaces the film’s emergency with surging waves and heavy rain. [JANG Byungwon]
