Review

Somewhere in the Northern Hemisphere, a series of dramatic events take place: an office worker is demeaningly fired, a lost immigrant is violently attacked, a magician fails at a magical trick. In the middle of this devastation stands Karl, covered in soot from his furniture store, which he had burnt down for the insurance money. A lot of people find it hard to sleep that night.

Roy ANDERSSON
Roy Andersson was born in 1943 in Goteborg, Sweden. His film A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence won the Golden Lion at the 71st Venice Film Festival, and his previous works have also been introduced at the Cannes and Venice Film Festival. Whenever he presented his new films, they have caused controversies on human existence, and he finished his new work About Endlessness (2019) recently. In his photographic career as well as filmmaking, Andersson exhibits sharp insights on modernity and modern human beings. Thus, he has been called auteur of introspection since the 1990s, offering insights into human beings.
