Review

Based on a novel, The Balloon Man the story concerns Helene, the wife of a hopeless would-be writer and drug addict. Her husband´s best friend tries to lay a trap for Helene, so that she will be forced to pay dearly for a divorce settlement. Also conspiring against Helene is her father-in-law, who wishes to wrest her child away from her.

Claude Chabrol

Born in Paris in 1930 and died in 2010. He was considered as the master in the mystery genre. In 1958, Chabrol made his feature debut with Le Beau Serge(1958). He won Golden Bear from Berlinale by Les Cousins, his second film. The most prolific of the major New Wave directors, Chabrol averaged almost one film a year from 1958 until his death.
