Aribam Syam Sharma is a film director, actor, critic and music director. So far he has directed fourteen feature films and thirty non-feature films. His film My Son, My Precious received the Grand Prix at the Festival des Trios Continents, Nantes, France in 1982. Other widely acclaimed films that attracted worldwide attention include Ishanou, the official selection (Un Certain Regard) for Cannes Film Festival 1991, and Sangai ? The Dancing Deer Of Manipur, declared as the “Outstanding Film of the Year 1989” by the British Film Institute. Acclaim within the country has been forthcoming and he has won the National Award fifteen times already.
