This film refers to the Italian underground film Anna (1972-75) by Alberto Grifi and Massimo Sarchielli, which documents a few months in the life of a young homeless and pregnant woman who encounters the directors in 1972 in Piazza Navona, Rome. Grifi and Sarchielli offer to help her; in return, they render Anna the subject of a project between documentation and (re)-staging, between empathy, detached observation, and exploitation. The film uses unreleased image and sound materials from Alberto Grifi’s archives and is dedicated to its heroine.
