Asta, who lives in Ålesund, a city on the western coast of Norway, is taking a leave of absence from her job at a local newspaper after an incident. Ålesund is a famous port city known for its furniture factories, but it is a quiet place without much to see. Asta lives with her girlfriend, Live, an immigrant carpenter, and their daily life is as quiet as the landscape of the lonesome city. Asta temporarily returns to her work in the summer, and while covering soccer team supporters, some youngsters protesting for environmental issues, and cruise officials, she remembers an article on an Afghan asylum seeker named Aslan and begins to search for him. Will Asta be able to meet Aslan? A Human Position is a unique film with a very slowly developed narrative. There is no explanation about Asta’s painful past, and no information about Aslan. However, watching this film surprisingly evokes a feeling of getting healed. Asta’s enthralling expressions pull the audience in, and in the scene where she asks Live, "What's the best thing about Norway?" the audience may as well find themselves answering her question without realizing it.
