Review

Together with Pulse (2001) and Retribution (2006), Cure is part of what is known as Kurosawa’s horror film trilogy. Takabe Kenichi, a detective, starts to investigate a serial killer case where the murders take place without any motives. The murderer just leaves an X on the dead bodies. Found on a beach, Mamiya Kunihiko remembers nothing and poses strange questions to the people around him while murders take place in the area. Cure uses fear without reason to make the viewer continuously experience horror. From the calm camera angle, the viewers are injected with endless fear and horror without any warning. This great movie is a reflection of the modern society where we are easily exposed to hatred and violence without reason. [YEON Sang-ho]
