Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster portrays four young people living in Istanbul: Zeynep can’t even bear the daily news. His colleague, Ayşe, lives off Zeynep and wants to escape abroad due to their uncertain future. A technician named Mehmet is unsatisfied with an ordinary life. Unemployed Ali has understandable difficulty living with his parents. They are all short of money, have no work, and suffer social isolation. They cry because they don’t win the lottery, everyday life is too ordinary, and they are lonely. In any case, there are too many excuses for them to cry. When these four young people get acquainted by chance, there seems to be a slight glimpse of hope, but they will have to wait and see if things are that easy to come by. This film shouldn’t feel light, as it focuses on the destitution of the young generation. However, director Umut SUBAŞI humorously unfolds the story, like the paradoxical melody of Beethoven’s The Turkish March, leaving its resonance with viewers. (CHUN Jinsu)
