Yoo Jitae is best known as an actor, but he has also directed quite a few films. With four short films, including his latest, Talk To Her, and one feature film to his credit, calling him “Director Yoo” sounds very natural. The Bike Boy is the first short film that introduced Yoo Jitae to the world as a director. Set in the Hwaseong Branch of Imgye Elementary School in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province (now closed), the film stars a cast of real pupils, which shows his adventurous spirit. The film is a non-playful, earnest portrayal of an innocent love story of elementary school pupils, and the last scene, showing a misunderstanding between a boy and a girl, offers a fresh shock. Director Yoo Jitae, who had been considering directing since his film acting debut, Bye June (1998), has shown serious and skillful directing, which earned him an Audience Award at the Busan Asian Short Film Festival.
