Rising from the slums of Queens, New York, singer Cyndi Lauper was a rival to Madonna in the 1980s. She went through a rebellious adolescence and gained great popularity with her debut song Girls Just Want to Have Fun released in 1983, followed by masterpieces that swept the global music market one after another including Time After Time, She Bop, and True Colors. Outside of her music, she is a fashion icon and is known for her proactive comments against racism and sexism as well as her defiance of social norms by featuring ordinary women in her music videos. Although Cyndi Lauper continued her career, she slowly faded away from the public's attention until she wrote music for the musical Kinky Boots (2013), becoming the center of attention again. This film does not merely show a singer who was loved by the public but also tells a touching story that demonstrates how she developed her creative abilities and maintained her beliefs. (CHUN Jinsu)
