The most talented author of the 60´s Czech New Wave film is Vera Chytilova. Even since the socialistic value was the aesthetic parameter in films, she was interested in the innovation of the existing film language and was also significantly influenced by feminism, nihilism and existentialism. Her innovative film was criticized and banned by Czech government at that time as “intellectual garbage” and “symptoms of cancer” made by a bourgeoisie elite woman, but was praised enthusiastically through international film festivals in the west. Along with
humors about two girls called ‘Marie’ and how they deconstruct and disturb the never changing and hypocritical daily life. This film jeers at the male dominant system and encourages the creative life of individual as an existential being with various experiments on the visual expression. It is a feminism film flooding with liberal energy of the artist who is in favor of the deconstruction of the chronological narrative, the improvisation of acting, the affection toward pure movement images, the free interpretation of texts as the third person’s point of view. By using the visual contradiction of the two different worlds such as destruction and reconstruction, static and movement, routine and deviation, order and chaos, man and woman, black & white and color, play and art, close and open and so on, the film induces audiences’ flexible interpretation of It.
