“Love knows no boundaries nor race”, or so the saying goes. When we think of lovers, we visualize a struggle to maintain their love, as the couple faces all kinds of social barriers. In The Perfect Couple, we meet a policeman suffering from aichmophobia and a trouble-making female journalist. Due to an odd twist of fate, these two characters find themselves bound by a ‘fish-paste on a stick’. These lovers begin their relationship as enemies. But their unfounded hatred develops into love as they fall for one another. Director Kim Jung-woo, whose debut film Oh My God drew two and a half million audiences in Korea, once again creates a romantic comedy centered around a couple who are polar opposites of another. Kang Jae-hyuk becomes helpless with any pointed object, while Choi Su-jin fights against a group of drug-dealing gangsters with a petrol-bomb made from a vitamin drink bottle. The film will make you laugh with the fabulous happenings and absurd scenarios this couple finds itself in. Although at times over-the-top, their enthusiastic performances are enjoyable. This film stars Hyeon Young who is known for her unusual nasally voice, and musical star Jeon Soo-kyung, and they should be called ‘the real perfect couple’.
