Born in 1941. After graduating from the department of Korean literature in Sungkyunkwan University, he started working as the assistant director for the director, YU Hyun-mok. After that career, he made his debut film, Hwannyeo(1974). Through Yeong ja’s Heydays (1975) and Winter Woman (1977), he won the good opinion of critics and audiences, so he was highly acclaimed for both the cinematic quality and the popularity as a film director. He usually had portrayed young women living a tough life in unreasonable reality with the realistic technique, and through the films, he had satirized the dark sides of Korean society with his new styles.
