Parallel North is a film full of hallucinating images. There’s a car running on a small road in the woods and the camera’s viewpoint toward the outside of the car window makes the boundary between the sky and the ground indistinct. As the subject of the camera, the woods just stands there. However the moving camera, or a stranger’s sight gives the woods re-birth as a completely new organism. It’s not just a depiction of the outside landscape from a car running but an experiment of reconstructing the natural land and sky to be something absolutely new. When you have suddenly felt a landscape strange which, you think, you are familiar with, you will experience fear. This film closely touches that weakness of humans’.
