Every year, a dozen of new directors challenge the Indian film market, which domestic films share 90% in total, because of its closed yet stable structure. Bearing in mind India’s quicker and stronger shift of supply and demand than any other country, it is noteworthy that the movie industry or the audience make enormous investment in the development of Bollywood. Except some directors who made an unusual debut, most of the directors tend to make their debut films based on the ‘rules’ of Bollywood. With Bollywood’s superstars Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan starring in this film, he received exceptional attention as a first time director. One For You, One For Me features a story of young love of those in their 20s and 30s and criticizes the Indian middle class, which has grown up absorbing Western culture without censorship. With an effective interaction between Imran Khan’s faithful depiction of Rahul, who had to hide himself due to his family’s suppression, and Kareena Kapoor’s portrayal of chatty, anxious modern women, this film smartly covers a rather serious theme, which is unusual at Bollywood.
