Born in 1952, Haarlem, Netherlands. He made his feature debut with [#i_]Abel[_i#](1986), which won the Critics Award at the Venice International Film Festival. [#i_]The Dress[_i#](1996), which made the audience his name know.
He directed Little [#i_]Tony[_i#](1998), [#i_]Grimm[_i#](1993) and [#i_]WAITER[_i#](2006). [#i_]The thriller, Borgman[_i#](2013), was nominated for Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival.
