Review

Grandma-Drawer is the last of Kim Jigon’s Grandma trilogy. The series takes a look at the lives of elderly residents who rely on each other in a rundown neighborhood. The camera tries to embrace the traces of the people, the objects, and the space as it looks upon the elderly residents and the trivial incidents that occur without being tied down by formality. This makes the crew step out from behind the camera to mingle with the characters. Grandma-Drawer is a documentary has a similar attitude in filming the lives of elderly women who will be living in a new town. Like the previous films, the warm bond between the director and the crew is naturally reflected on the screen and each scene appeals to the audience like the outcome of the friendship they are forming with the characters via the camera. It reminds us what it means to live together. (KIM Youngjin)
