Born and raised in Jeju Island, a forty-year-old poet is still an immature man who is always scolded by his wife. Unlike financially unstable husband himself, the wife is a strong support system in their marriage. Hyun Taekgi meets a boy named Seyun who works at the cash register of a donut shop who he feels a sudden intense vibe. Living with a tough materialistic mother and an ill father Se-yun has been separated from the rest of the world and starts to open up with an unexpected interest from a stranger. Kim Yang-hee’s debut film The Poet and The Boy questions the value of 'beauty'. The poet opens his eyes on the real beauty when he meets someone that he feels he needs to take care of and also in secular reality of the world. A wife who looks after her husband, a mother who takes care of her child are defined as 'poets' by 'taking care' of others. [JANG Byungwon]
