Review

Joao Moreira Salles found the idea for ''In the Intense Now ''on a film in which his mother recorded her impression of the traveling to China in 1966. In the film to celebrate the 50th anniversary of May 68, he combines the amateur footage of May 1968, the record of the collapse of Czechoslovakia in the same year, and the images that the mother recorded in the year of the Chinese Cultural Revolution. The editing of the images created for the history and for family, looks for correlations between them. Beginning with the search for the films in the archive, his journey reaches to May 1968. Salles discovers the brilliant joy his mother had presented two years ago in the face of the protesters. In the film asking what it means in ´present´ time, he cites several French films: Chris Marker´s'' The Merry Month of May''(1963) and Romain Goupil´s ''Half a Life''(1982). [JANG Byungwon]
