Review

Heimat is a Space in Time is a magnificent essay film about the history of Germany. Thomas Heise reveals his family history through private archive such as letters and journals. The family history is traced before World War Ⅰ and to the 20th century Germany that starts with the economic disaster of the Weimar Republic. Especially, the scene where the camera scrolls through the list of victims’ addresses as one recites the letter about the Jewish expulsion in Poland leaves an intense afterimage. [JANG Byungwon]
