Death Will Come and Shall Have Your Eyes
Director_ José Luis TORRES LEIVA
Chile, Germany, Argentina 2019 90min DCP color feature Fiction
Review

Inspired by the poem of the same name by Italian poet Cesare PAVESE, the film depicts the power of love that was rediscovered after death. A lifelong female couple, Maria and Ana, move to a cabin in the woods for Maria who is diagnosed with terminal cancer. There, they patiently wait for death to naturally come. Every day, the couple is stuck with their routine but as they overcome the pain, they reconfirm their love. Unlike conventional drama, the director focuses on conveying the hope of love and the possibility of human relationships rather than emphasizing sadness in front of death. The delicate performance of the two actors is quite impressive. [Sung MOON]
