The eight families who went into the Jao mountains from Magino. Ogawa and Ogawa Productions did a simulation through a three-dimensional topography experiment of the peculiar type of coldness in the district called Shirominami which was attacked by the cold-damage of 1980, and started to look for the reason behind the cold-weather damage of Furuyashika Village. This scientific analysis led to filming the flowering of rice through a microscope and doing geological research. Gradually they go over to the history of cold-damage and disposes the process of modernity in Japan through the personal histories of the elders. It talks about the history of the family that contain mother´s memories and the epitaph of the son who died in the war, the memories of yesterday seen through the eyes of an elderly who returned from the colony of ´Manchuria´, and of an elderly who experienced the war in New Guinea who still blows the army horn proudly. It manifests the history of the nation of Japan. It expands from the history of the Furuyashiki village to the extensive history of the Showa of modern Japan. This is the first achievement which Ogawa, after having moved to Yamagata district, publicized in the 1980´s.
