23rd JEONJU International Film Festival (2022)

??Ta-da! The 23rd JEONJU International Film Festival
Unveils Its Official Poster!??

Hello from JEONJU IFF, "A Letter Written Together," a series of JEONJU IFF´s newsletter.
?
It seemed like yesterday when winter came. Flowers are in bloom, which means it´s already March! You must be excited about our 23rd JEONJU International Film Festival. You know what? It´s just around the corner!?

JEONJU IFF recently unveiled its official poster, which is probably the overview of the festival. The slogan

"Film Goes On"

which attracted the audience´s attention last year, has continued this year. Despite the ongoing pandemic, the spirit of "Film goes on" goes on! The number of films submitted to the 23rd JEONJU IFF has increased, which is an increase compared to the previous year. We would say it continues the spirit of the slogan, doesn´t it?!

Can you spot "J" in this poster? ??

Here is the official poster of our 23rd edition! Ever since 2020, JEONJU IFF has been emphasising “J” for JEONJU as the main visual concept in its official posters as a means to highlight the city as a brand.

"Two inverted triangles in the shape of spreading light came together to form the alphabet "J" for JEONJU, while the triangular shapes going in various directions represent "23," the number of times the JEONJU IFF has held its festival. This is the basic structure of the festival’s identity for the year 2022."

According to the art director KIM Kwangchul who designed this year´s poster, this is how the official poster for the year 2022 was made. The comment from KIM makes the poster look different and comprehensible.

You might be wondering about the official poster from 2019 to 2021. Let me introduce a history of the official posters! ????

Let´s start with the 20th official poster. The motive for the 20th official poster is "a window."It was produced by collaging the still photo of "JEONJU Cinema Project 2019" selected by MIN Jeonghwa´s illustration images inspired by items in films such as windows, curtains, and frames.

"J" cannot be found in the poster, however, it is emotional and sensational in that the still photo from JEONJU Cinema Project was used. Also, the image of the window went well with the slogan of the 20th edition, "Cinema, Liberated and Expressed."

What about the poster of the 21st edition? First of all, you can notice the long period of the festival. It was the year when the festival was held from the end of May to September, with online screenings and long-term screenings.?

JEONJU IFF started to emphasise "J" for JEONJU as the main visual concept in its official posters for the first time, using the still photo of the special exhibition "Quay Brothers." The main theme of the 21st edition´s poster dramatically revealed the identity of JEONJU IFF through the torn and attached "J," symbolising the experiment and the unconventionality of the film festival.?

Here is our 22nd edition´s official poster where the big "J" is in the centre with the slogan "Film Goes On." The initial "J" of last year´s poster represents the screen. It is a form that makes aspect ratios of 16:9 and 4:3 and connects them.?

It brings to mind cinemas and digital devices, on the other hand, the two squares that form "J" showed our film festival´s will to fight back the ongoing pandemic with cinemas and online screenings. Last year´s poster seems to be much more intuitive than previous official posters in that it has an emphasis on the festival identity with the initial "J."?

We´d love to introduce our EVERY SINGLE official poster as a total of 22 JEONJU IFF´s official posters have been unveiled. We are very sorry but we can´t make it. However, it´s been a great time to explore the past posters and compare them with this year´s poster.

JEONJU IFF is just around the corner! We´re very glad to start this year´s first newsletter with the official poster and the slogan. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing pandemic, spring doesn´t feel good that much.

Hoping tomorrow will be better than today, it´s time to wait for the 23rd JEONJU IFF!
?????

The 23rd JEONJU IFF is scheduled to be held for 10 days from Thursday, April 28 to Saturday, May 7, 2022. We´ll be waiting for you all in Jeonju! :)?
