JEONJU IFF’s Industry Program,13th JEONJU Project Opens on May 2!

? JEONJU lab 2021 Showcase and the highly anticipated JEONJU Cinema Project to be held from May 2 to 4 at Korea Traditional Culture Center and Jeonju Social Innovation Center.

? Film industry insiders who are struggling due to COVID-19 are paying their attention to JEONJU Conference.

The 22nd JEONJU International Film Festival’s (JEONJU IFF, Festival Director LEE Joondong) industry program, JEONJU Project, will open on May 2 for its 13th edition.

For the 13th year, JEONJU Project will strengthen its planning, investment, and production support programs, and expand submission eligibility from just films to all audiovisual projects. To reflect this change, JEONJU Project Market has changed its name to JEONJU Project, and it looks forward to welcoming domestic and foreign film industry insiders.

JEONJU Project has three major events. The first is the “JEONJU lab 2021 Showcase” which will open the doors to JEONJU Project on Sunday, May 2, at the Korea Traditional Culture Center’s Concert Hall. After its selection announcement last January, 10 projects of JEONJU lab received individual mentoring and went through group discussions to receive development support. They will be introduced on stage at the JEONJU lab Showcase. The projects being introduced this year will have business meetings with film industry professionals from May 2 to the 4. There will be more than 200 meetings at JEONJU Project according to pre-registration, showing a strong interest of the industry.

“K-DOC CLASS,” hosted by JEONJU IFF and SJM Cultural Foundation, will also be held during JEONJU Project this year. “RoughCut Navigating” offers mentoring to Korean documentary projects in the rough-cut stage by new filmmakers, while “RoughCut Monitoring” is an editing advisory program for established filmmakers who are interested in entering the foreign market. Writer Kim Okyoung and directors Lee Chang-jae and Kim Il-rhan are among the Korean documentary experts who will participate.

“JEONJU Conference,” which looks at topics in both the domestic and foreign film industries from various angles, is also an event that attracts the attention of industry insiders. Being newly introduced this year, JEONJU Conference will be held from Sunday, May 2 to Tuesday, May 4 for three days at the Korea Traditional Culture Center’s Concert Hall and the Jeonju Social Innovation Center’s Conference Room with the title, “Film Goes On: What Connects Us?” With the theme of “Post Corona Era, Korean Film Industry’s Reorganization and OTT,” JEONJU Conference will discuss the concerns of producers, distributors, and policymakers surrounding the OTT (over-the-top) platform and content production, while also introducing the domestic and international alternative OTT platforms we should pay attention to. In addition, in response to making new narratives in a new era, “Women, Actor, and Director: The Way They Meet Audiences” and “Newly Connected World” will take place. In this discussion where female actor-directors, actors, directors, and producers will come together to discuss the future of films, actor-filmmakers Ryu Hyunkyung, Kim Soy, and Kim Kkob-bi, actor Choi Sooyoung, director Hong Jiyeong, and Kim Jihye, the CEO of ATO, will attend.

There will also be many other rich programs including a book talk with Kim Okyoung, the leading Korean documentarist and author of Art of Documentary, held at the Korea Traditional Culture Center’s Concert Hall on Tuesday, May 4, as well as “Equality, Diversity, and Film,” co-presented with Deundeun, Center for Gender Equality in Korean Film, held at the Jeonju Social Innovation Center’s Conference Room.

More details about the 13th JEONJU Project can be found on the JEONJU Project website (https://project.jeonjufest.kr), while some of the events will be streamed live on JEONJU IFF’s official YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/jiffmedia).
