JEONJU Cinema Project: Next Edition 2024 Selection Announced

- Seven Korean and international projects selected for pitching event during JEONJU Project.

- Finalists set to secure up to KRW 100 million in production investment.

- Completed projects to be world premiered at the 26th JEONJU International Film Festival.

The JEONJU International Film Festival (JEONJU IFF, Festival Co-Director MIN Sungwook and JUNG Junho) announced the selections for the 16th JEONJU Project.

The JEONJU Project is an industry program established by JEONJU IFF in 2009 to strengthen ties with the Korean film industry and expand the festival’s capabilities for international projects. For 12 years until 2020, under the name of Jeonju Project Market (JPM), the festival supported the production of Korean and international fiction, nonfiction, and experimental films with creative potential. Since 2021, it has been renamed JEONJU Project and operates more organized planning, development support, and production financing programs to provide practical resources for film production.

The JEONJU Cinema Project: Next Edition, a production investment program managed by the JEONJU Project, supports innovative Korean and international feature films and documentaries. The JEONJU Project received 58 submissions (31 Korean and 27 international) during its call for entries from November 21 to December 28, 2023, an increase of 8 submissions from the previous year.

After a preliminary evaluation, the JEONJU Cinema Project: Next Edition selected four Korean and three international projects. These seven projects will participate in a pitching event during the JEONJU Project period. Following the pitching event, one Korean and one international project will be officially designated as the ‘JEONJU Cinema Project.’ They will be granted production cost investment of up to KRW 100 million each. The completed films will be world premiered at the 26th JEONJU IFF in 2025.

The four Korean projects selected to participate in the pitching event are Unplug (SHEKH Al Mamun), The Gorals (YOO Jaewook), The Housebreakers (KO Bongsoo), and Horoomon (LEE Ilha). The three international projects are Body in Plural (Marta POPIVODA), I’ve Seen Water (Blake WILLIAMS), and The Prince of Nanawa (Clarisa NAVAS).

The JEONJU Cinema Project celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and continues its global film tours. Following the first screening held at Sala Leopoldo Lugones in Argentina last December, the second screening is currently at Museo Reina Sofia in Spain. Additionally, the third screening took place at Arsenal in Germany, and the fourth screening at Cineteca Nacional de Mexico in Mexico is scheduled for this April. The films selected from the JEONJU Cinema Project have garnered acclaim from both audiences and critics at numerous Korean and international film festivals.

The 16th JEONJU Project will be held during JEONJU IFF from May 5 (Sun) to May 7 (Tue).
