The 28th JEONJU International Film Festival Opens Call for Entries for International Competition

The 28th JEONJU International Film Festival (JEONJU IFF, Festival Co-Directors MIN Sungwook and JUNG Junho) opens its call for entries for the International Competition on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. Submissions will be accepted until Monday, January 11, 2027. This year’s submission period is two weeks longer than last year’s, giving filmmakers more time to submit their work.
The International Competition is open to a director’s first or second feature-length film of any genre, including fiction, documentary, experimental, and animation. Eligible films must be 40 minutes or longer (including credits) and completed after January 2026. Films must also hold at least an Asian premiere status, meaning they must not have been screened in any Asian country. (For films produced in an Asian country, eligibility is retained if they have not been screened in any Asian country other than their home country.) Submissions that do not meet all of these requirements will not be considered.
Entries are accepted exclusively through FilmFreeway, with a processing fee of USD 30 per film. Finalists will be selected through internal deliberation and preliminary review, and will be notified individually in March 2027. Dedicated to discovering new voices in world cinema, the International Competition has introduced emerging filmmakers from around the globe at an early stage of their careers. Recent Grand Prize winners include The Night Is Fading Away (Argentina) by Ezequiel SALINAS and Ramiro SONZINI at the 27th edition (2026), Mad Bills to Pay (or Destiny, dile que no soy malo) (United States) by Joel Alfonso VARGAS at the 26th edition (2025), and The Major Tones (Argentina, Spain) by Ingrid POKROPEK at the 25th edition (2024).
Having presented 236 films from 54 countries at its 27th edition, JEONJU IFF continues to serve as a platform for bold and independent filmmaking. Selected films will meet audiences at the 28th JEONJU IFF, which runs for ten days in Jeonju from Wednesday, April 28, to Friday, May 7, 2027.
