Being one of the most favorite pet birds, a parrot is also one of the birds that need to have “wing trimming,” feathers cut. People came up with the idea of wing trimming because birds do not come back when they fly away in the wind. From a human’s point of view, it is necessary to prevent a parrot from flying away from the house. However, it stirred a social controversy; regardless of the pain the birds may or may not feel, people clip the wings to keep the birds indoor and train them.
Two main characters in Remiges live like pet birds that have been trained this way. Scarred by their parents, they live in rebellion to the society. They were not overly protected; they suffered from the parents’ negligence and indifference. Unlike pet birds with trimmed wings that stay near their owners, the characters try desperately to leave their past behind and live as they like. However, they cannot run away from their parents; they come back home like the birds with clipped wings. The film depicts the courage of two wandering souls, but what it actually narrates is a tragedy of listless children who cannot escape to anywhere and has no memory of their childhood where they needed to be protected.
