Mysterious Object at Noon
Director_ Apichatpong Weerasethakul
Thailand 2000 83min 35mm b&w feature Documentary
Review

´Mysterious Objects at Noon´ is an odd film, which defies labeling. The unpredictable storyline seems to reflect the director´s penchant for surrealism movies. According to the director, this film is like a word game. A word game where words follow each other through stream of consciousness. The movie´s seemingly irregular and disorderly scenes are captivating. A disabled boy and his private tutor Dogfar, and an unidentified object streaming between her legs, and the confusion of the boy trying to seize the object, the boy becomes the tutor, and the Thai singers who sing the boy´s tale. And in between this circulating tale are fish sellers, farmers and a lower class woman suffering from skin disease. The director and his staff made this film all over Thailand. And they also included themselves in the movie. This movie is a strange brew of documentary and fiction that seems to circulate. Pay close attention to this up and coming ´Jim Jarmusch of Asia.´
