Unable to make ends meet, the two sisters decide to leave Seoul and return to their hometown. They move back in with their mother, but, contrary to their expectations, find no warmth there. What stands out in this process is the relationship between the characters. The sisters and their mother seem like lovers, in that what they say and do to one another can be described as both violence and affection. The invisible deficiencies almost reach a breaking point, ready to burst any minute. The fixed camera angle and the silence that fills the film respond delicately to the tiniest of cracks. The path of self-sufficiency that they opt for in the end makes us question the meaning of “home” again. [LIM Jisun]
