However, she returned to music again and received recognition upon meeting a producer from her hometown in Portugal. Nicknamed the “Queen of Morna” for her renditions of mornas, the traditional music of Cape Verde, and “Barefoot Diva” for performing without shoes, as she was unable to afford them, Évora took the world stage.
