This documentary sums up the life and music of Oscar Peterson, who was born in Canada in 1925 and remained the best jazz pianist for over 60 years until his death in 2007 at the age of 82. His presence and music have left an unforgettable impression on many of his colleagues and jazz fans, as he released over 200 albums and won eight Grammys. This film shows all of Oscar Peterson's activities, from his childhood years as a prodigy and the efforts he put in to surpass the legendary jazz pianist, Art Tatum, whom he admired and even feared, to the recording sessions during his trio days where the music that symbolizes Oscar Peterson was perfected. It also contains duet performances with other famous artists, arrangements of various musical works, his solo performances around the world, his indomitable will in the face of racism during the US tour, and his historic song “Hymn to Freedom.” [CHUN Jinsu]
