In the early 1990s, eight-year-old Palash and Safi are best friends who live next door. They call each other "dostojee,” which is the original title of the film and means "special friend" in Bengali. They do everything together and are so proud of each other that they call each other dostojee at least once a day. Unlike children who enjoy themselves together without any problems, the world of adults is a completely different situation. The area is predominantly Muslim, including Safi's family, while Palash's family is Hindu. When the mosque is destroyed in a Hindu raid, Palash's mother wants to move, while Safi's father tells his son not to get close to Palash. In his debut film, director Prasun Chatterjee portrayed the sad reality of adults who are different from children who could be friends without any conditions. [CHUN Jinsu]
