Blue Velvet starts with an overwhelming image. The ordinary days are colored with strong colors to lead to very twisted situations, preparing the viewer to go from the ordinary to the non-ordinary. Soon after, Jeffery finds a human ear in the grass while taking a walk. With the opening sequence and this initial event, Blue Velvet leads us without any hesitance to mysterious and fearful occurrences that we can find, just one step removed from our everyday lives.
